3.Welcome
‘I feel hungry’
‘do you’
‘yeah of course’ I replied with delight.
‘Want a burger kid!’
I stupidly murmured within my mind. My stomach
jostled within itself, it has exceeded the limits and could burst any time into
a cry. I laughed and cried at a time. Really!!! What a fool! I knew I was
hearing voices, I had gone mad, but still I couldn’t help it. I was just afraid
how would Harry eract if he got to know this. However, I tried to hide my
feelings as much as possible.
He took a glance at me and went busy in his driving.
I was fitted on the back seat by the exhausting force of seat belt. There was
silence in the car except the imaginary me. I felt as if the invisible aliens
were trotting me back again and again in this ailing planet. My imaginations
were turning more foolish. The habit of living alone had affected me so much
that I forgot to catch attention of someone’s presence.
The engines slowed down and car stopped. He smiled
at me
‘please step on and wait there’ he said pointing at
one of the building. Probably he implied the one-storeyed building with
symmetrical figures- quite far!! I murmured within myself, well, I can walk
that far. Only the decorated lights enabled me to notice on the hoarding
“Restaurant” and a label on top of it said “Fast N Fresh”. I saw the car moving
towards parking lot.
I walked to the dark green coloured door. A small
bell rang as I entered through, I walked down the aisle and preferred the place
in the corner, actually it suited me.
Golden Japanese lamps decorated the place and blue
curtains added more precision. The place was little crowded. I hated sprawling
cities and its crowd. I’ve always dreamt of living in remote areas. I looked at
the window pane, scrutinizing on the lonely girl. She had wore a drab olive
shirt-sleeveless. Her face had an unusual affliction and perhaps completely
despaired look. Lips were dry, eyes were sullen, hunger gleamed in her eyes.
She has same dark chocolate brown eyes as my dad. Her detailed features
flinched my concentration…
So stupid…… you don’t even recognize yourself, I
scolded myself in agitation. Perhaps this was because I hadn’t seen myself longly.
Two people sitting near another corner were staring
blankly at me. Their stare made me feel uncomfortable. That’s absurd! I tried
to avoid them.
Harry was
back in minutes. The waiter arrived
‘sir, order please’
Harry placed the menu infront of me and said ‘you
can proceed, without a hesitation’
I saw at the menu card so keenly as if it had caught
some sorts of treasure. I picked it and searched thoroughly.
‘a ravioli will do’ I lied as I smiled fakely.
‘nothing more…..’ he squeezed eyes, as if he spied
my mind.
‘no,no’ I lied again. I had been a bad liar but
however I tried to make it seem real with all my effort.
‘won’t you eat?’
‘not hungry’
I’d my dinner and then we went to Harry’s house. His
house made me feel like some piece of ancient antique-a little! I wasn’t even
sure what to say, the house didn’t look pity but it had some sort of fits.
Actually, it was beautiful but seemed more Japanese than an American one. You
can say a Jap combo Am house. In a way it was modern and different. The hall
had many artistic paintings.
I walked upstairs. It had exactly the same essence
like I had in my room. It had blue paint on the wall-my favorite, a small bed
in the corner sucked up with the wall. Shelves on the front wall with images of
my past memories framed up. And two long wide windows. I love this. I heard the
footsteps approaching, Harry was at the door.
‘so, did you like it’
Superb, I love it’ I really loved it but I had
nothing to thank him, at least this could excuse my mind for a more better day.
We didn’t converse much, as he explained me about
all necessary things kept, he also said that one of those didn’t work and went
away.
I crawled back to bed, picked my mom’s image ‘Happy
birthday’ I said kissing it and shut my eyes into deep sleep. Dead silence, the
midnight caught fever. Suddenly something made me feel colder than ever.
Someone with frozen cold hands nudged at my shoulder. I woke up from sleep, I
fervently shivered with the cold, but when I looked around and there was no
one. ‘Absolutely a dream’ I whispered with my eyes half shut. I went back to
sleep.
